Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Erwin Tulfo cautioned anyone who accepts pawned Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) cash cards on Wednesday, 13 July that they might face jail time.,Tulfo said in an interview that certain loan sharks charge recipients 20% to 40% of their total monetary assistance from the government.,“I would like to take this opportunity to warn the loan sharks. Accepting those pawned 4Ps cash cards is not allowed,” Tulfo said.,“That’s against the law and they are charging 20-40% of the entire cash assistance so the monthly aid of the beneficiary would be slashed by 40%. You could be jailed if we catch you doing this,” he added.,Tulfo previously said that over 4 million 4Ps participants will be deleted from the list of those receiving targeted social assistance. He stated that because there are so many applications on the waiting list, the vacant places would be filled with new beneficiaries.,According to Tulfo, around 15 million people in the country belong to the below poverty line category.
