Marcos, Duterte top campaign contribution, spending in 2022 election

President Bongbong Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte had the largest campaign contributions and expenditures among presidential and vice-presidential candidates during the 2022 elections.,According to the documents obtained by the Daily Tribune on Wednesday, 13 July, from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), Marcos received a total campaign contribution of P624,684,320.09, where P4.2 million came from in-kind contributions from other sources, while he had a total expenditure of P623,230,176.68, where P371,795,856.59 came from cash contributions and P251,434,320.09 came from in-kind contributions.,Marcos was followed by former Vice President Leni Robredo who received a total campaign contribution of P388,327,500.00, with a total expenditure of P388,347,278.99, where P19,788.99 came from her personal funds or resources.,Former Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso received a total contribution of P241.5 million, with a total expenditure of P242,626,998.71, where he spend P1,126,998.71 came from his personal funds or resources.,Former Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson received a total contribution of P160,302,316.61, where P71 million are cash contributions, and P89,538,500.00 are in-kind contributions. He had a total expenditure of P1,809,349.14, where 1,069,349.14 came from his personal funds or resources, while the remaining P740,000 came from the contributions he received.,Doc Willie Ong had no contributions received, but he had a total expenditure of P522,257.45 which came from his personal funds or resources.,Former Deputy Speaker Lito Atienza also did not receive contributions, but he had a total expenditure of P240,806.66 which came from his personal funds or resources.,Carlos Serapio had also a total expenditure of P218,369.88 which came from his personal funds or resources, where he did not receive any campaign contributions.,Activist and professor Walden Bello received a total contribution of P2.86 million but he did not spend any single centavo on his campaign.,Among the vice-presidential candidates, Manny Lopez and Rizalito David failed to file their SOCE.,Under Section 14 of Republic Act 7166, it states that: “Every candidate and treasurer of the political party shall, within thirty days after the day of the election, file in duplicate with the offices of the Commission the full, true, and itemized statement of all contributions and expenditures in connection with the election.”,It also states that: “No person elected to any public offices shall enter upon the duties of his office until he has filed the statement of contributions and expenditures herein required.”,The poll body has yet to release the list of campaign donors of presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
