Senator Bong Go remains committed to advocating the welfare and interest of the country’s uniformed personnel as he underscored the need to provide a Magna Carta for the officers and personnel of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).,Noting that the eradication of illegal drugs is one of the serious issues faced by the government, Go stressed the crucial role of anti-drug personnel who have been at the forefront of former president Rodrigo Duterte’s fight against criminality and illegal drugs.,The lawmaker then cited how they have safeguarded the Filipino people, especially the youth, from the perilous effects of illegal drugs.,“Kahit noong mayor pa lang si dating pangulong Duterte, alam na niya na hindi talaga nakakaganda ng buhay ng Pilipino o kahit na ekonomiya ng bansa ang iligal na droga. Kaya ito talaga ang pinakaunang pinagtuunan niya ng pansin simula nang maupo siya bilang pangulo noong 2016,” shared Go.,“Kaya naman mahalaga rin para sa ating mga taga-gobyerno na bigyan natin ng kahalagahan ang ating mga anti-drug personnel na walang humpay na nakikipagsapalaran upang matulungan ang bansa natin na masugpo ang droga. Ibigay natin kung anong nararapat para sa kanila,” he urged.,The proposed measure seeks to recognize the exceptional contributions of PDEA officers and personnel who protect the country even as their jobs constantly put them at risk of injury and other serious incidents.,If passed into law, the bill aims to safeguard the social and economic welfare of PDEA employees by providing them with acceptable living and working conditions, and better terms of employment and career opportunities through a more thorough and comprehensive career development program, with proper training to enhance their knowledge, competence, transparency, respect for human dignity and commitment to service.,“The least that the government can provide for our uniformed personnel in the PDEA and their families is to give them an assurance that the government appreciates the work that they do, and hopes for a bright and safe future for them and their families,” expressed Go.,“They have been the lead agency in the Duterte Administration’s anti-drug campaign. Without them, former president Duterte might not have been successful. To give them the recognition they truly deserve, let us work on providing them better compensation packages and benefits,” he emphasized.,Go also filed a bill that aims to provide free legal assistance to any officer or enlisted personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) who may incur charges from incidents related to the performance of their official duty.,Furthermore, he was also instrumental in pushing the salary increase of all uniformed personnel in fulfillment of former president Duterte’s campaign promise during the early years of the previous administration. In January 2018, Duterte signed Joint Resolution No. 1 which increased the base pay of all military and uniformed personnel in the government.
