The mage suggests that Geralt could train to become an even more powerful magic user and tries to persuade the witcher to join the Nilfgaardian traitors, but Geralt turns down the offer due to his political neutrality. The next morning, Geralt stumbles on an attempted coup, which gets more complicated as more betrayals come to light, and Vilgefortz confronts Geralt at the Tower of Gulls, where he repeats his offer to join the traitors.
