Palace ‘exasperated’ over ICC request

Malacañang was “exasperated” over the request of the International Criminal Court’s prosecutor to reopen an investigation into human rights abuses, allegedly committed during President Rodrigo Duterte’s anti-narcotics drive.,ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan announced on Friday night, 25 June, that he had formally asked judges of the pre-trial chamber to resume the drug war probe, which was stalled in 2021 at Manila’s request, with government officials citing their investigations into the killings.,Reacting to Khan’s announcement, acting presidential spokesperson Sec. Martin Andanar said Duterte’s anti-drug campaign was “successful” in lowering the crime rate and noted the administration’s efforts to investigate “all deaths that have arisen from lawful drug enforcement operations.”,“For the nth time, we express exasperation on the latest request of ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan,” Andanar noted.
