Visiting Pinoy lawyer shot, in critical condition in Philadelphia

A 36-year-old Filipino lawyer who came with his mother to visit relatives in Philadelphia on 18 June is in critical condition after sustaining gunshot wounds from an apparently random shooting by still unidentified perpetrators, Philippine Consul General in New York Elmer Cato informed Daily Tribune.,“Early this evening, we were alerted by incoming Secretary of Migrant Workers Susan Ople of a shooting incident in Philadelphia that wounded a 36-year-old Filipino lawyer who was visiting from the Philippines,” said Cato.,“We reached out to relatives of the victim and authorities in Philadelphia. Deputy Consul General Arman Talbo, who was then in Philadelphia, was also instructed to proceed to the hospital where the shooting victim and his mother were taken.”,Cato said the lawyer, John Laylo, and his mother were on their way to the airport at around 4 a.m. to catch a flight to Chicago when shots rang out at the Uber car they were riding in.,“The victim, who was hit in the head by one of six bullets fired by a suspect/suspects, was taken to a local hospital where he was declared in critical condition,” said Cato.,“The mother sustained minor wounds from shattered glass from the car window.”,Cato added Deputy Consul General Talbo and a leader of the Filipino community in Philadelphia were able to talk to the mother.,“I was also able to talk to the mother and assured her that we are ready to extend the necessary assistance,” said Cato.,The Philippine Consulate General in New York is in touch with police in Philadelphia, who said the case is under investigation and no arrests have been made.,“We call on authorities in Philadelphia to do what is necessary to bring the perpetrator of this crime to justice,” said Cato.
