Chris Pratt Responds To Indiana Jones Recasting Rumors

Chris Pratt responds to rumors he was once being considered to play Indiana Jones. After years of various setbacks, Indiana Jones 5 finally got off the ground, and is set for release in June 2023. Directed by James Mangold, the film sees Harrison Ford – who just celebrated his 80th birthday – reprise the iconic archeologist for (presumably) the final time. Indiana Jones 5 plot details are being kept under wraps, but set photos indicate certain sequences will see Ford digitally de-aged to appear as a younger Indy in flashbacks.,Well before Indiana Jones 5 got the green light with Ford headlining once more, there were plenty of rumors that another actor would inhabit the role. Back in 2015, a popular name widely speculated was Pratt, who was coming off the record-breaking success of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and about to star in the record-breaking Jurassic World. There were even reports Steven Spielberg was interested in directing Pratt in Indiana Jones 5, but that obviously didn’t come into fruition. Now, years later, Pratt reflects on the rumors.,Related: Kathleen Kennedy is Wrong, Indiana Jones Should Be Recast,Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Pratt was asked about the Indiana Jones recasting reports. Initially feigning knowing who Spielberg is, Pratt humorously explained why he’d be afraid to step into the role. Check out his comments below:,For what it’s worth, Lucasfilm seems to agree with Ford’s sentiment. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said they won’t make a new Indiana Jones movie without Ford, essentially confirming the role will never be recast. Still, it’s possible the idea of Pratt as Indy was discussed among the filmmakers for a period. It’s easy to understand why Pratt would have been a name that interested Spielberg. The actor had already demonstrated his ability to headline a big-budget blockbuster and at the time was enjoying a boost in popularity thanks to his everyman onscreen presence. Having someone younger, like Pratt, play Indiana Jones would also open things up in terms of set pieces, as they’d be more able to handle a physically-demanding role. It remains to be seen how Indiana Jones 5 will handle action bits with Ford.,Pratt may never get an opportunity to don Indy’s fedora, but he has done well for himself with a Jurassic World trilogy and multiple appearances as Star-Lord in the MCU (culminating with next year’s Guardians of the Galaxy 3). It might have been fun to see what Pratt could have brought to a classic role like Indiana Jones, but it’s arguably for the best this didn’t pan out. Pratt had the opportunity to develop two roles of his own, rather than being stuck in Ford’s looming shadow. He undoubtedly would have been compared to Ford if he did sign on for Spielberg’s Indiana Jones 5, which would have put him in a tough spot.,Next: Disney’s Indiana Jones 5 Franchise Ending Hint Is Major Relief,Source: Happy Sad Confused
