Young Leia’s Force Sensitivity Clarified By Obi-Wan Kenobi Writer

Obi-Wan Kenobi writer Joby Harold clarifies young Leia’s Force sensitivity in the popular Star Wars television series. Vivien Lyra Blair stars as a 10-year-old Princess Leia Organa in the science-fiction fantasy show. Set 10 years after the fall of the Jedi Order and the rise of the Galactic Empire, Obi-Wan Kenobi finds the titular hero hiding on the desert planet Tatooine and watching over a young Luke Skywalker from afar. However, when Leia is kidnapped at the behest of the ruthless Inquisitor Reva the Third Sister (Moses Ingram), Kenobi is called upon by Leia’s adoptive father, Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits), as their only hope in freeing his daughter.,Leia, as the child of a diplomat, must attend social gatherings and meet an assortment of people, where she has demonstrated a high level of emotional insight at such a young age. After being teased by her cousin in Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 1, Leia tore the older child down by seeing right through his fragile façade to his deeply-rooted insecurities. But a more telling incident occurred during episode 4, in which Reva attempted to mind probe Leia with the Force to retrieve the information about an underground network helping Jedi survive. The Inquisitor was met with surprising resistance, as Leia divulged nothing and mocked her interrogator by saying, “Is this a staring contest?“,Related: Obi-Wan Explains Why Darth Vader Couldn’t Interrogate Leia In A New Hope,In a recent interview with Inverse, Harold provides additional details about Leia’s potential Force sensitivity, which has been seemingly demonstrated throughout the show. The writer would not confirm the young princess’ use of the Force in that way, but he doesn’t eliminate the possibility, either. Read what Harold says below:,Although Harold has not explicitly confirmed that Leia is using the Force during the show, he greatly implies that her high degree of social perception is an effect of that power. The child’s strength was all but confirmed when Leia successfully defended herself from Reva’s attempt to intrude into her mind, something that she quickly achieved with the con-man Haja (Kumail Nanjiani) on the planet Daiyu. Although it can be argued that Leia had nothing to hide, since she truly did not know any information about a secret organization, Reva specifically called out Leia’s strength during the interrogation.,Leia’s Force sensitivity is no secret to longtime fans of the franchise. Most notably, she has demonstrated her strength in the Force in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, protecting herself in the vacuum of space in The Last Jedi, as well as being explicitly shown to have received training in the Force from Luke during a flashback sequence in Rise of Skywalker. Harold all but confirms that Leia’s ability to read people in Obi-Wan Kenobi is partially derived from her connection to the Force, though whether her Jedi Master protector will sense it remains to be seen.,Next: Why Obi-Wan’s Force Explanation To Leia Is So Different From Luke’s,Source: Inverse
