Bong Go distributes aid to fire victims in Pasig City

 ,Senator Christopher “Bong” Go reiterated the need for local authorities to strengthen fire safety and preparedness in their respective communities as his team mounted a relief activity for fire victims in Pasig City on Tuesday, 24 May.,In his video conference call to the victims, Go mentioned that he primarily authored and co-sponsored Republic Act No. 11589, otherwise known as the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act of 2021, to enable the agency to respond faster and more effectively to fire-related incidents in the country.,The law provides for a ten-year modernization program for BFP that includes procuring new fire equipment, expanding manpower, and conducting specialized training for firefighters, among others.,It also directs the agency to conduct monthly fire prevention campaigns and information drives in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government and local government units.,“Importante po walang nasaktan, wala pong namatay, kasi ang gamit po’y nabibili natin. At Pilipino tayo, kilala tayong nagtutulungan,” Go encouraged.,“Ang pera po’y kikitain natin subalit ‘yung perang kikitain ay hindi po nabibili ang buhay. A lost life is a lost life forever kaya mag-ingat po kayo. Mga kababayan ko, magtulungan ho tayo at huwag ho kayong mawalan ng pag-asa… ang importante po buhay tayo,” he reiterated.,His team provided grocery packs, vitamins, masks, meals and shirts to 64 affected families at the Barangay Pinagbuhatan Hall. Go’s staff likewise gave bikes, phablets, shoes, volleyballs and basketballs to select individuals.,The Department of Social Welfare and Development provided the fire victims with financial assistance to help hasten their recovery.,To assist those with health concerns, Go, who serves as the Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, also offered medical assistance. The Malasakit Centers Act, which was also primarily authored and sponsored by Go, mandates all Department of Health-hospitals, plus the Philippine General Hospital, to establish their own centers that would provide convenient access to medical assistance programs by the government.,“Mayroon na ho tayong 151 na Malasakt Center sa buong Pilipinas na handang tumulong sa inyo… Kung kailangan niyo po ng pagpapagamot, lapitan niyo lang po ang pinakamalapit na Malasakit Center sa inyong lugar,” encouraged Go.,“Tutulungan ho kayo ng Malasakit Center at kung kailangan niyo po ng dagdag na tulong, lapitan niyo lang po ang aking opisina. Bukas po ang aking opisina para po sa inyong lahat sa abot ng aking makakaya, nandirito lang po ako,” he reassured.,Go also thanked all of the local officials who stepped up and exerted great efforts to help the affected families after the fire incident.,As Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance and an advocate for quality healthcare services, Go supported several initiatives for the Rizal Medical Center, such as the hospital’s improvement and rehabilitation, construction of a seven-story building inside the facility, and acquisition of medical equipment.,“Salamat po mga kababayan ko, mga taga-Pasig, ingat po kayo.
