Zubiri calls out Comelec for missing certificates of canvass in five provinces

Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri on Wednesday criticized anew the Commission on Elections (Comelec) amid the missing certificates of canvass of five provinces during the resumption of the canvassing of votes for president and vice president.,Zubiri, co-chair of the Joint Canvassing Committee questioned the missing certificates of canvass from Mandaluyong, Sulu, Sultan Kudarat, Surigao del Sur and Pampanga.,“It is such a simple duty of the PES (provincial election supervisors) and it’s a constitutionally mandated duty of the Comelec to deliver the provincial certificate of canvass to the Senate so that we may canvass them on time during the National Board of Canvassers and Joint Session of Congress,” he said.,“How difficult is that to do? As a matter of fact, my co-chair, the Comelec, is in the Senate trying to apply for confirmation under the Commission on Appointments. How can we confirm them [if] they can’t even deliver to us the certificate of canvass needed to canvass the votes for president and vice president,” Zubiri added.
