Hayden Christensen Reacts To Star Wars Sequel Trilogy

Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in the Star Wars prequels, has reacted to the famed franchise’s sequel trilogy. Beginning in 2015 and culminating in 2019, the sequel trilogy includes Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens, Star Wars: Episode VIII — The Last Jedi, and Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker. The series fared well with fans for the most part and brought the Skywalker saga to an official close., The concept of sequels within the franchise has been a challenging one ever since George Lucas first announced that he’d be returning to the Star Wars universe for more. On one hand, fans are typically beside themselves with excitement over the prospect of more adventures. On the other hand, however, the demand to replicate the level of enjoyment that past films brought is practically impossible to fulfill. This was especially true for Lucas when it came time to deliver the prequels. The original Star Wars trilogy had cemented itself into the popular consciousness by the time Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace was released, and while it performed well enough at the box office, fans had several complaints. With each successive release, many fans felt that the prequels weren’t what they’d hoped for.,Related: Kenobi Show Means Obi-Wan & Vader Equal A Huge Star Wars Canon Record, That same struggle continued with the release of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. This time around, however, Lucas was no longer in control, and long-time fans were all very curious to see where the series would go next. One fan who was particularly interested in the new trilogy was Christensen. Because the films didn’t include Darth Vader, Christensen was able to sit back and watch them unfold as a fan — something that the 41-year-old was happy to do. In fact, while speaking with Kakuchopurei, Christensen revealed his enjoyment of the trilogy:,After experiencing the praise and criticism involved in making the prequel films, being able to sit back and simply take in a new era of Star Wars as a fan does sound enjoyable. The sequel trilogy didn’t receive the backlash that the prequel trilogy did, yet despite lingering feelings about the prequels, there’s currently no shortage of Star Wars fans itching to see Christensen return as Darth Vader. That wish is about to be granted as Disney prepares to launch its Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries on May 27.,At present, it’s difficult to know just how Obi-Wan Kenobi will fare, but the return of Ewan McGregor as the eponymous character as well as Hayden Christensen as his former student turned mortal enemy does bode well. That being said, the Star Wars franchise’s confidence recently took a slight hit with the rather lukewarm response to another Disney+ series, The Book of Boba Fett. Given that both Obi-Wan and Darth Vader are far more popular characters than Boba Fett has been over the years, however, it stands to reason that Obi-Wan Kenobi will find a certain degree of acclaim.,Next: Vader Vs.
