Bong Go aids fire victims in Manila City

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go provided assistance to hundreds of families affected by the recent fire incident in Barangay 649, Baseco on Tuesday, 24 May 2022.,Go reaffirmed his commitment to help uplift the lives of Filipinos in crisis situations.,He likewise underscored that promoting the welfare of the struggling sectors remains his top priority.,“Alam niyo, pangalagaan niyo po ang buhay ng bawat isa… Ingat kayo at huwag po kayo mawalan ng pag-asa. Magtulungan lang po tayo. Sino ba naman ang magtutulungan kung hindi tayong mga kapwa Pilipino,” Go said.,“Ang gamit naman po ay nabibili (at) maraming darating sa inyong mga tulong. Ang pera po’y ating kikitain, magsipag lang tayo. Ngunit, ‘yung perang kikitain natin ay hindi po nabibili ang buhay. Kaya mag ingat tayo. A lost life is a lost life forever,” he added.,Go personally led the aid distribution at Baseco Compound Port Area where he and his team handed out grocery packs, canned goods, vitamins, masks, meals and shirts to a total of 277 families.,Go provided phablets, watches and bicycles to select individuals and gave basketballs and volleyballs to some of the young victims as part of his commitment to boost sports development among the youth.,A team from the Department of Social Welfare and Development also extended financial aid to each affected family while the National Housing Authority further assessed the needs of the victims and provided them with housing assistance.,The Department of Trade and Industry provided livelihood support to qualified individuals.,“Mga kababayan ko dito sa Baseco, ilang beses na po ako bumalik dito at ayun naman po ang aking ipinangako sa inyo (na) ‘pag may nasunugan, mayroong nabahaan, mayroong nilindol o naputukan ng bulkan (ay) pinupuntahan ko talaga ‘yan basta kaya lang po ng aking katawan at kaya ng aking panahon. Dahil ‘yan naman po ang aking ipinangako sa inyo, (ang) makapagbigay ng tulong, makabigay ng solusyon sa inyong mga problema o hinaing, at makapag-iwan ng konting ngiti sa panahon ng inyong pagdadalamhati,” Go expressed.,Go stressed the importance of getting vaccinated, noting that eligible individuals should not waste the opportunity to protect themselves from severe symptoms of COVID-19.,“Kung hindi pa po kayo bakunado, magpabakuna na kayo. Ang bakuna po ang tanging susi o solusyon para unti-unti tayong makabalik sa normal na pamumuhay… wala na pong iba,” Go pointed out.,“Kung qualified na po kayo magpa-booster, magpa-booster na po kayo. Meron na pong 245 million doses of vaccines na dumating at pinaghirapan po natin ito sa gobyerno para po mabakunahan ang lahat,” he urged.,Go, who chairs the Senate Committee on Health, also advised the residents to seek medical aid from any of the 151 Malasakit Centers in the country, five of which are located in the city of Manila.,A brainchild of Go, the Malasakit Center program brings together partnered agencies, including DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation under one roof to provide convenient assistance to poor and indigent patients. Go is the principal author and sponsor of the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019.,The Malasakit Centers in the city are located at Philippine General Hospital, Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital, Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Hospital, San Lazaro Hospital, and Tondo Medical Hospital.,Go also reached out to those who wish to return to their provinces and encouraged them to apply for the Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa (BP2) program which offers a tailored assistance package for each beneficiary household and includes livelihood and/or housing support.,“Napapansin niyo, masikip yung daan dito sa Maynila kaya sabi ko may programang Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa. Walang pilitan. Bibigyan kayo ng hanapbuhay, negosyo, trabaho o pabahay dun sa lugar ninyo. Mayroong housing rin po… pero kung gusto niyo lang po,” he noted.,Go commended the local officials for ensuring that no resident is left behind during these challenging times. He likewise appealed to the next leaders of the country to continue the Duterte legacy of providing a more comfortable life for all.,“Mga kababayan ko, ingat po kayo at patapos na po ang termino ng ating mahal na Pangulong (Rodrigo) Duterte. Pinapaabot lang niya ang kanyang taos-pusong pasasalamat sa inyo at ang kanyang pagmamahal sa inyo,” said Go.,“At sana po’y hindi masayang ang inumpisahan ng ating mahal na Pangulo. ‘Yung inumpisahan niyang magkaroon ng komportable at safe na buhay. Ibig kong sabihin, (‘yung) nakakauwi po ang ating mga anak (at) hindi nasasaktan o hindi nababastos. Dahil po ‘yan sa sakripisyo na ginawa ni Pangulong Duterte,” he added.,“Ako naman po bilang inyong senador, nandirito pa po ako na inyong senador hanggang 2025, ay handang mag serbisyo po sa inyo sa abot po ng aking makakaya,” the senator reassured.,To help improve public service delivery in the city, Go supported the funding of several projects, such as the road improvement along Tayuman Street to Dagupan, construction of a three-story multipurpose building in Malacañang Park, and the structural improvement of public buildings and construction of evacuation centers, among others.,He also supported the acquisition of medical supplies, multipurpose vehicles, a rescue patrol service van, and educational supplies for the city government.,Go also primarily authored and co-sponsored the Republic Act No. 11589 or the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act that provides for a ten-year modernization program for BFP. This includes the acquisition of modern fire equipment, expansion of BFP’s manpower, and provision of specialized training, among others.,As part of his commitment to assist more disaster victims in the country, Go personally visited and assisted more fire victims in the cities of Navotas and Manila on 24 and 18 May 24, respectively.
