BBM camp surprised, thankful to Robredo for recognizing integrity of polls

The camp of presumptive president Bongbong Marcos on Tuesday expressed gratitude to the camp of Vice President Leni Robredo for recognizing the integrity of the electoral process after the latter raised no objection on all certificates of canvass.,In an afternoon press conference, Marcos’ chief-of-staff and lawyer Vic Rodriguez thanked Robredo’s camp for their “recognition of the very clear win and mandate overwhelming given by the Filipino people” to Marcos.,,“We have joined in their manifestation and we in fact thanked our esteemed kampañero Atty. Romy Macalintal, as well as Vice President Leni Robredo, for recognizing the integrity of the elections, the electoral process, and for recognizing the vibrancy of our democracy,” said Rodriguez, who is also the incoming Executive Secretary of the Marcos’ administration.,The latest partial results of the 9 May presidential elections showed that Marcos is poised for a landslide victory after receiving 31,104,175 votes while Robredo, his closest contender, garnered 14,822,051.,Robredo’s camp won’t put up a fight at the canvassing of votes for president in the recently concluded election, which was dominated by Marcos, her archrival.,Lawyer Romulo Macalintal, Robredo’s lead counsel, said at the start of the joint congressional canvassing that she won’t raise any objections to the process.,“We interpose no objection to the inclusion of all the certificates of canvass for president from the various provincial and city boards of canvassers found by this honorable board to be authentic and duly executed,” he said.,Rodriguez admitted that his camp was “surprised” by Macalintal’s manifestation.,“We were all surprised, but it was a good surprise. It was a show of deep patriotism and I think this is what we have been appealing for during the campaign—the message of unity,” he said.,Malacañang described Robredo’s decision as a “positive development,” saying her move would expedite the canvassing of votes for president.,“As we earlier articulated, let us respect the outcome of the election and give chance to the winning candidates to fulfill their campaign platform,” said acting presidential spokesperson Secretary Martin Andanar.,Rodriguez said Marcos will “absolutely” attend the proclamation, which may happen in the afternoon of 25 May at the earliest.,He also disclosed that Marcos is eyeing to disclose more potential members of his Cabinet on Friday, 27 May., ,Transition,Transition activities under the Executive branch are ongoing to ensure a seamless turnover of government business to the incoming administration, Andanar said.,The senior Palace official noted that Duterte and Marcos’ transition teams have yet to meet since both sides are awaiting the official proclamation.,“We will wait for the further announcement,” Andanar said. “I don’t have information on that and we could know more after the Cabinet meeting next week.”,Duterte was also mum about Marcos’ choices for his Cabinet, he said.,“We have not talked about that during our Talk to the People addresses or mini-Cabinet meetings. The President is silent about the news about the choices of the presumptive president,” Andanar said when asked if the President has given any feedback or comment about the nominated Cabinet members.
