Thor: Love & Thunder Is Already Teasing Pratt’s Major Star-Lord Change

Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) looks to be undergoing a personality shift in
Thor: Love and Thunder, the next MCU movie to hit screens. The leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Star-Lord seems to have gotten over his frosty relationship with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) in
Avengers: Infinity War and
Avengers: Endgame, and the events of those movies may have changed him. The trailer for
Thor: Love and Thunder seems to show a different side to the wise-cracking Star-Lord, which is a welcome evolution for the character.,Peter Quill is defined by his humorous attitude when first introduced in
Guardians of the Galaxy. He does not trust easily, constantly makes jokes, and engages in frivolous relationships. However, when he meets Drax, Gamora, Groot, and Rocket Raccoon, he realizes the importance of family and opens up.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 sees Star-Lord navigate the death of his father figure, the Ravagers leader Yondu Udonta, as well as find out that his real father, Ego, is a genocidal villain. After losing Gamora to Thanos in
Avengers: Infinity War and being snapped for five years, Quill appears more solemn in the newest trailer for
Thor: Love and Thunder, giving Thor advice about the importance of the loved ones in his life.,Related: Marvel Can’t Recast Pratt’s Star-Lord, Despite Changing Actors Before,Thor: Love and Thunder‘s trailer shows a different Star-Lord, one who is a little more sensitive and thoughtful, clearly affected by the tragedies he endured during the Infinity Saga. Quill looks to be taking on a more sagely approach to his leadership position, contrasting heavily with his previous depictions, which have all shown him to be a silly and hotheaded character rather than one prone to having any particularly deep insights. As War Machine aptly summarizes in
Avengers: Endgame, ”
So
he’s an idiot.“,This evolution in Peter Quill’s MCU character may also see his dynamic with Thor shift.
Avengers: Infinity War and
Endgame establish a rivalry built on toxic masculinity between the pair, though Thor seems less insecure about it than Star-Lord. With the trauma he endures in the Infinity Saga and losing Gamora fresh in his mind (despite the appearance of an alternate Gamora during the Battle at the Avengers Compound), Peter looks to have put this childish competition behind him–mostly, at least.,Losing his mother, father, father-figure, and Gamora has clearly had a profound effect on Star-Lord. In many ways, his appearance in
Thor: Love and Thunder may be leading up to the culmination of his character arc, in the upcoming
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which could be the final film appearance in the actor’s current Marvel contract. However, Star-Lord actor Chris Pratt has made it very clear that he is willing to extend. After
Thor: Love and Thunder, Peter Quill may be more down to Earth and serious than we have ever seen him before, demonstrating Marvel’s penchant for multi-film character arcs.,Next: Thor: Love & Thunder Will Break Phase 4’s Big Fan Service Trend
