OVP’s Bayanihan e-konsulta to end service on 31 May

The Office of the Vice President’s free teleconsultation services for Covid-19 will end next week, 31 May.,Dubbed “Bayanihan e-konsulta,” the program was powered by thousands of medical professionals and non-medical personnel who helped decongest hospitals by virtually linking patients and health workers for free consultations.,“We sincerely thank everyone who joined us in this initiative to deliver the necessary medical assistance to our countrymen during the Covid-19 pandemic,” the OVP said in an advisory.,“Thank you very much to all our volunteer doctors, nurses, other medical professionals, and the non-medical volunteers who have given their time and skills to make our program a success,” it added.,The OVP said Bayanihan e-konsulta would cease operations a month before the term of Vice President Leni Robredo ends to prepare for transition activities.,Robredo is expected to bow out of office on 30 June, with Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio poised to be her successor.,It remains to be seen if Duterte-Carpio will continue the programs initiated by Robredo, who served as the opposition’s de facto leader under the Duterte administration.,Bayanihan e-konsulta was launched in April 2021 when Metro Manila faced a surge in coronavirus infections.,Aside from free teleconsultation services, it offered Covid-19 care kits and treatment pill molnupiravir to qualified patients upon the prescription of volunteer doctors.,Over 10,000 Covid-19 patients received care kits from the program since its inception, an important feat for OVP which had meager resources that limited the program’s reach.
