The government will establish extension offices of the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) in Ilocos Sur and Southern Leyte.,President Rodrigo Duterte inked Republic Act 11760 creating Marina’s extension office in Vigan City, as well as RA 11761 which converted a satellite office in Maasin City into an extension office.,Marina is an agency of the Philippine government under the Department of Transportation mandated to develop, promote, and regulate the maritime industry in the Philippines.,Under both measures, Duterte said the funding for such projects would be sourced from the annual General Appropriations Act.,He also directed Marina administrators to include in the agency’s programs the operationalization of extension offices in Vigan City and Maasin City.,“Within 60 days from the effectivity of this act, the secretary of transportation, through the administrator of Marina, shall issue the necessary rules and regulations for its implementation,” Duterte said.,The Chief Executive inked the laws last 29 April, but copies of the measures were only sent to the media on Monday afternoon.,It will take effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation.,— With a report from MJ BLANCAFLOR
