Comelec: Voter registration to resume by June, early July

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced on Monday that voter registration would resume by June or July for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections in December 2022.,In a press briefing, COMELEC Commissioner George Garcia reminded unregistered voters to register to start June or by the first week of July.,“This coming June or July, we will resume with the registration of voters. We are reminding qualified individuals who haven’t registered yet to look forward to the resumption of registration of voters this June or at least by the first week of July this year,” he said.,Meanwhile, Garcia refuted a widely circulated claim that the poll body had already depleted its budget for the barangay elections.,“I would like to tell you that this is not true. No budget has been given to us for barangay elections. The national elections have just concluded. Why would they give us a budget for barangay elections already? You can always verify with [the Department of Budget and Management] that the budget for the barangay election of 2022 supposedly by December is still intact,” he said.,Under the 2022 budget, the DBM approved a P8.441 billion budget for the Barangay and SK polls, lower than the proposed budget of P11.4 billion by the poll body.,During the 9 May polls, there are 65.7 million registered Filipinos according to the COMELEC data.
