Disney’s Upcoming Movie Releases – From 2022 to 2025

Disney has become one of the top grossing movie studios, with its plethora of original movies, live-action retellings of animated features, and Marvel and Star Wars IP making worldwide box office splashes. The company has several more movies – both animated and live-action – that will be released over the course of the next few years. In recent years, Disney has seen considerable success with live-action remakes like
Cruella and
Maleficent, as well as animated properties like
Frozen II, and they’re continuing to push the envelope into the 2020s with

Turning Red and more.,2021 saw Disney return to movie theatres full force with multiple Marvel theatrical exclusives, culminating in the mega-hit
Spider-Man: No Way Home, and the animated juggernaut
Encanto. The studio also released an unusual amount of adult-oriented titles, including Oscar contenders
West Side Story and
Nightmare Alley, which were largely a holdover from its acquisition of 20th century Fox. The studio has also continued releasing new movies directly to its Disney+ streaming service, including Pixar features such as
Luca.,Related: Every Upcoming Animated Disney Movie,What the future holds now that Disney is steadily releasing several of the films from its acquisition of 20th Century Fox —
The Last Duel, which bombed at the box office, and
The French Dispatch, which did alright financially as an arthouse film — remains to be seen. Suffice it to say movies released by Disney no longer adhere to such a close definition as they once did, given all the studios that operate under the entertainment giant’s purview. But the upcoming release slate certainly includes a number of films that fit into that category, as well as a range that challenges it directly. Here’s a rundown of every upcoming Disney movie  releasing through 2025.,Based on the animated series
Bob’s Burgers
The Bob’s Burgers Movie is an animated musical comedy. The film was initially set to release in theaters in the summer of 2020, but was delayed due to COVID-19.
The Bob’s Burgers Movie was written and directed by Loren Bouchard, the series’ creator, and will star the voice cast of H. Jon Benjamin, John Roberts, Dan Mintz, Eugene Mirman, Kristen Schaal, Larry Murphy, and Sam Seder.,This re-imagining of the
Chip ‘n’ Dale cartoon series will be a metatextual comedy in which the two characters (only one of which has had the “CGI surgery”) reunite 30 years after the end of their TV show to investigate a mystery. The movie will feature cartoon characters in a live-action world similar to
Who Framed Roger Rabbit and stars John Mulaney and Andy Samberg as the voices of Chip and Dale with an extensive supporting cast of voice and live-action roles, including Will Arnett, KiKi Layne, Eric Bana, Seth Rogen, Tress MacNeille, Tim Robinson, and J. K. Simmons.,Fans who can’t get enough of
Toy Story’s Buzz Lightyear are in luck, as Pixar is making a whole film that will tell the origin story of the human movie character who inspired the toy astronaut from the 1995 film. However, don’t expect Tim Allen to be back as this version of Buzz, with Chris Evans set to voice the titular character. No other cast members have yet been announced for
Lightyear. The film is set to bow in 2022 and is directed by Angus MacLane.,Related: Lightyear: What Emperor Zurg Looks Like Without His Helmet,The latest in Disney’s line of more lifelike remakes of its animated classics,
Pinocchio is directed by the legendary Robert Zemeckis and feature a mixture of live action and computer animation to tell the classic story of a puppet who comes to life. Tom Hanks stars as Gepetto, with Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as the voice of Pinocchio. Russell. Russell’s cast includes Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Rami Malek, Zoe Saldana, Robert De Niro, Mike Myers, Michael Shannon, and more. Relatively little is known about the film, but
Strange World has been described as an action-adventure movie inspired by pulp novels and starring a legendary family of adventurers. The movie is directed by Don Hall and written by Qui Nguyen, both of whom previously worked on
Raya and the Last Dragon.,The release date for James Cameron’s long,
long-awaited sequel to 2009’s
Avatar has been moved around so much that it’s almost hard to keep track. What was once one sequel expanded to four, with the film being delayed several years to accommodate filming. However, filming on
Avatar: The Way of Water, the first sequel, finally wrapped in September 2020 and the film be released December 2022. Zoe Saldana’s Neytiri and Sam Worthington’s Jake and host of other characters will return for
Avatar 2, with the film being set 13 years after the original. The current plan is for further
Avatar sequels to release every two years, with the third installment slated for December 20, 2024.,Related: Avatar 2’s Trailer Success Proves James Cameron’s Haters Wrong,After finally wrapping production in July 2021, the live-action
The Little Mermaid has a a release date. The film was originally supposed to begin shooting in the spring of 2020, but faced COVID-19 and other delays. Fans will finally get to see

Little Mermaid stars Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, Javier Bardem, and Melissa McCarthy.,It was long believed that
Indiana Jones 5 would happen at some point after Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, and that belief came true when the studio announced in 2016 plans to produce another
Indiana Jones movie. Unfortunately, it’s been delayed multiple times since then – first from 2019 to 2020, and then again to 2021. The film seemed to keep a firm release spot in 2022, but it’s since been delayed until 2023.
Indiana Jones 5, which sees James Mangold writing and directing and Harrison Ford returning in the title role.,The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Phase 4” has seen it expand in multiple directions, including the launch of Disney+ series starring MCU characters and the incorporation of alternate universes into movies like
Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. The next Marvel outing, releasing on July 8, 2022, will be the highly anticipated
Thor: Love and Thunder, which will see the return of Natalie Portman as Jane Foster and Taika Waititi staying in the director’s chair after
Thor: Ragnarok.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which has the unenviable task of continuing the series following the tragic death of Chadwick Boseman, will release on November 11, 2022. 2023 will see another three Marvel releases, with
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on February 17,
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on May 5, and
The Marvels, starring Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel, on July 28. There’s also confirmed
Fantastic Four, Blade, and
Captain America movies in the works among others, which could arrive in late 2023 or 2024, but so far there’s no exact release date.,The theatrical future of
Star Wars is less certain, with the franchise taking a break from cinemas after the generally hostile reception to
The Last Skywalker and instead focusing on Disney+ series. Nevertheless, Disney has announced theatrical dates for future
Star
Wars movies, with the idea that
Star Wars will alternate with
Avatar in the December release slot. A
Rogue Squadron movie directed by Patty Jenkins is currently slated to be the first of these biannual releases, scheduled for December 22, 2023. The following, currently unknown,
Star Wars movie will release n December 19, 2025. A number of creators have been announced as working on upcoming
Star Wars movies, including
Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige, and the much-in-demand Taika Waititi, but it’s currently unclear which of these projects will end up in cinemas.,Related: How A Rogue Squadron Ship Can Fix A Last Jedi Complaint,Following
Lightyear, Pixar’s slate is currently clear, although there are a number of release dates set aside for potential Pixar projects, with the next being June 16, 2023. The studio has said that it is focusing on developing new original properties following a very sequel-heavy 2010s, so viewers shouldn’t expect a return to the worlds of
Toy
Story or
The Incredibles any time soon. While many are also expecting a Disney Animation Studios sequel to 2022’s big hit
Encanto, there are currently no plans for it. However, because
Encanto was a product of Walt Disney Animation Studios and not Pixar, the “no sequels” initiative may not apply.,Walt Disney Pictures is one of the biggest movie studios in the world, so it makes sense for them to plan out their release schedule for the next four years, from now through 2025. The studio also has a number of projects that have been announced and are in various stages of development and production. However, it’s nearly impossible to establish which movies will release when until their release dates are officially confirmed.,However, there are a few confirmed release dates as the studio looks farther into the future.
Haunted Mansion, the second movie based on the Disney World attraction, will star Rosario Dawson, Tiffany Haddish, and Lakeith Stanfield, and release on March 10, 2023. Disney has also announced a Disney Animation Studios release called
Foster for November 22, 2023, although little is known about it.
Hocus Pocus 2 and
Disenchanted, the sequel to 2007’s
Enchanted, will both be coming to Disney+ in fall 2022. There will be a steady stream of movies released to Disney’s streaming service throughout 2022, including
Hollywood Stargirl, a sequel to the 2020 movie
Stargirl, the Giannis Antetokounmpo biopic
Rise, and
Trevor: the Musical.,There are also still projects from 20th Century Studios acquired during the Fox purchase that will be making their way to theatres, although several will be released directly to Hulu, including the fantasy action film
The Princess. Martin McDonagh’s next film
The Banshees of Inisherin, starring Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell,  will be released on October 21, 2022, and the Adam McKay-produced and Anja Taylor-Joy-starring black comedy
The Menu will be released on November 18, 2022.,Related: Every Upcoming MCU Project Moon Knight Could Appear In,Sister Act 3,

have all been announced, but have no release dates scheduled. The live-action remake trend will continue with
Peter Pan & Wendy, expected to release in 2022,
Snow White, starring Rachel Zegler, and more. Disney has also committed to continuing a number of Fox franchises, including new installments of
Alien and
Planet of the Apes.,Considering that release dates are in a constant state of flux despite filming in Hollywood resuming after a months-long production shutdown (as seen recently with
Indiana Jones and the MCU films), and especially with rival studios like Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures, Warner Bros. continuing to solidify their plans and the pandemic still ongoing, some, if not all of these dates may still change down the line. For now, it looks like
Disney is preparing to release several live-action movies, a few Pixar movies, and some Disney Animation movies to kick off the next few years.,Next: All 10 Disney Animated Movies Releasing After Turning Red
