Suicide Squad Throwback Photo Shows Cast on Destroyed Jotunheim Set

Writer and director James Gunn shares a throwback photo of
The Suicide Squad’s cast on the destroyed Jotunheim set. Following his success with Marvel Studios’
Guardians of the Galaxy franchise (and brief, misguided firing), Gunn made his first foray into Warner Bros’ DC Extended Universe with last year’s
The Suicide Squad. Piggybacking off of David Ayer’s 2016 film, the quasi-sequel brings back Harley Quinn, Rick Flag, and Captain Boomerang while introducing a plethora of new characters to Amanda Waller’s Task Force X: including Blackguard, Javelin, Mongal, and Savant.,Unfortunately, those three characters never make it past the film’s title card—which leaves Harley Quinn, Rick Flag, Bloodsport, Peacemaker, King Shark, Polka-Dot Man, and Ratcatcher 2 on Corto Maltese to destroy all traces of Project Starfish. This leads them to the former WWII base turned top-secret facility, Jotunheim, which houses Starro the Conqueror. It’s revealed the giant alien was brought to Earth by the U.S. government, who then used the island’s inhabitants as test subjects—Task Force X was sent to cover America’s tracks. Following some explosions, Peacemaker’s betrayal, the death of Rick Flag, and the supposed death of the former, Starro escapes Jotunheim and wreaks havoc on Corto Maltese.
The Suicide Squad’s bombastic finale sees Polka-Dot Man stepped on by Starro, who “
was happy…floating…staring at the stars.” The rest of Task Force X survives after saving the day.,Related: James Gunn Will Save The DCEU By NOT Being The Next Snyder,James Gunn often takes to social media to interact with fans and share behind-the-scenes content. His latest post shows himself alongside David Dastmalchian and the surviving members of Task Force X (minus King Shark), Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, and Daniela Melchior. save the f—king world.” HBO Max’s spin-off,
Peacemaker, sees John Cena, Jennifer Holland, and Steve Agee reprise their roles from
The Suicide Squad. The series follows Peacemaker as he joins forces with the A.R.G.U.S. black ops squad on the “Butterfly Project” in an attempt to thwart an alien invasion. With a delightfully insane opening dance number, commendable soundtrack, and another giant alien,
Peacemaker expands Gunn’s corner of the DCEU. The series is currently the best-reviewed DCEU project on
Rotten Tomatoes and has since been renewed for a season 2.,Gunn recently wrapped filming on
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Following post-production, Gunn is poised to depart the Marvel Cinematic Universe and return to the DCEU. In addition to
Peacemaker season 2, the filmmaker has repeatedly teased other projects he has in the works. Whether this means a sequel to
The Suicide Squad or another Amanda Waller-centric spin-off remains to be seen. The flagship film left characters like Bloodsport, Ratcatcher 2, and King Shark (not to mention TDK and Weasel) with plenty of story potential. On top of that,
The Suicide Squad serves as a fantastic continuation of Harley Quinn’s development and fans would undoubtedly like to see more. Only time will tell if Gunn was thinking about the future as he shared the above throwback picture.,More: Peacemaker Season 2 Can Introduce DC’s Worst Supervillain Team,Source: James Gunn
