Duterte: PhilPost modernization to boost its ‘integrity’

President Rodrigo Duterte said he was hoping that the digitization efforts of Philippine Postal Corporation would boost its operations.,In a ceremony Thursday night, Duterte commended the Postal Office’s modernization initiatives which he said would bring back the corporation’s “integrity” amid previous incidents that its clients had complained of spoiled packages.,“The first thing that I uttered to Norman was I hope that these innovations, digital and all, will bring back the integrity of the Post Office,” he said in his speech, referring to Post Master General Norman Fulgencio.,The Chief Executive added that the postal corporation’s efforts would “surely boost our global competitiveness and stimulate economic activities during the period of recovery and digital transition.”,Among its projects include the agency’s mobile application, enhanced website, new postal cards with advanced security and financial features, and the digitalization of its payment collection system.,PhilPost’s modernization efforts, he said, were timely since it facilitates the more efficient delivery of communications, payment of services, as well as goods and merchandise, especially as industries and businesses shift their operations to e-commerce and online transactions.,“With the success of this project, I thus commend the PHLPost for ensuring responsive and people-centered governance, placing Filipinos at the heart of their operations towards building a high-trust society,” he said.,The unveiling of modernization efforts of PhilPost coincided with its 30th anniversary.,PhilPost is a government-owned and controlled corporation under the Office of the President tasked to provide postal services and deliveries locally and abroad.,Joining the President were Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, Presidential Communications Secretary and Acting Presidential Spokesperson Martin Andanar, Acting Cabinet Secretary Melvin Matibag, Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Dino, and Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go.,Senator-elect Robin Padilla, Civil Service Commission Chairperson Karlo Alexei Nograles, and Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.
